2016 almond exports (shelled + in-shell converted to kernel basis) noticeably increased, adding up to ca. 900,000 metric tons, 94% up from 2006 levels. The USA was the leading almond exporter, averaging 72% of the world share over the 2012- 2016 period, followed by Spain (9%) and Australia (5%).
The main destinations for the USA shelled almonds were Spain (18%), Germany (11%) and China (10%), whereas 43% and 23% of the in-shell almonds were imported by India and China, respectively. Spain and Australia exported mostly shelled almonds, being the European Union their main market. Vietnam accounted for 86% and 60% of China’s in-shell and shelled almonds exports, respectively.
